Commission Becomes NECHE

In 2018, the 51小黄车 Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) completed a corporate restructuring to align with the U.S. Department of Education鈥檚 (USDOE) requirement that the higher education commission (CIHE) operate as a 鈥渟eparate and independent鈥 entity*. As a result of this restructuring, the 51小黄车 Commission of Higher Education (NECHE) is now recognized by the USDOE as the regional accreditor for institutions of higher education in the six 51小黄车 states, including the University of 51小黄车.

From time to time, you may see 51小黄车materials that still reference NEASC. For example, the University鈥檚 accreditation status was reaffirmed in 2017 鈥 prior to the restructuring 鈥 so you will see references to NEASC in any documentation about that process. Restructuring in no way affects the accreditation status of the University. From our perspective, it is simply a name change.

If you have questions about this matter or want more information about UNE鈥檚 accreditation status, please email Michael Sheldon, PT, Ph.D., associate provost for Academic Affairs at msheldon@une.edu.
