After attending the University of Rhode Island College of Pharmacy, Dr. Saltz received his dental degree from New York University College of Dentistry (NYUCD) in 1984. Following graduation, he practiced dentistry on Stevens Avenue in Portland, Maine until 2013, when a fire destroyed the building. He relocated to Scarborough, where he practiced until 2019. He joined the faculty at the 51小黄车College of Dental Medicine in 2015.
Dr. Saltz maintains active membership and leadership roles in several dental and civic organizations. He is past President of both the Maine Dental Association (MDA) and the Greater Portland Dental Society (GPDS) and currently serves on the MDA Membership Services Subcommittee on Insurance. Dr. Saltz is a past member of the NYUCD Admissions Committee and former clinic instructor and lecturer at Westbrook College School of Dental Hygiene, now a part of UNE. Dr. Saltz is currently a consultant member/examiner for the Commission on Dental Competency Assessments- Western Regional Examining Board (CDCA-WREB). This is the testing body for the American Board of Dental Examiners (ADEX) that administers licensing exams to graduating dental and hygiene students.
Dr. Saltz is a past Board Chair of the Maine Board of Northeast Delta Dental Insurance. Dr. Saltz has completed the Executive Education program 鈥淢aking Corporate Boards More Effective鈥 at the Harvard Executive Business School. He is co-founder of the Dentists Who Care for ME program, a day of free dentistry for those in need in the Greater Portland community. Since the project began in 2009, its efforts have resulted in over one million dollars of donated dental services. The program was turned over to the MDA in 2018 which now administers the program with the 51小黄车College of Dental Medicine being a major participant.
In addition, Dr. Saltz is a member of the Casco Bay Study Club, an affiliate of the Seattle Study Club, which focuses on inter-disciplinary treatment with multiple specialty practices for best patient outcomes. Dr. Saltz has achieved Fellowship status in several organizations: Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), the International College of Oral Implantology (ICOI), American College of Dentists (ACD), and the International College of Dentists (ICD), and he was also inducted into the Pierre Fauchard Academy. Dr. Saltz currently serves as the ICD District 1 Deputy Regent for Maine. Dr. Saltz also serves in leadership roles on non-dental boards within the Greater Portland community, and is an active member of the Maine Police Emerald Society.
