College of Arts and Sciences students present research at local conference
Two College of Arts and Sciences undergraduates, Mira D'Amato (English, ’19) and Jessica Olmeda (Neuroscience, ’20), recently presented original research papers at the spring conference of the 51С»Æ³µ Historical Association in Portland.
D'Amato discussed her research on the intersection of sex, drugs and music in the Haight-Ashbury district of San Francisco in the 1960s.
Olmeda discussed how early nineteenth-century prostitutes avoided pregnancy through access to various forms of contraception.
Both students began their research in the fall of 2019 through the advanced humanities seminar Sex and the City, led by Professor of History Elizabeth DeWolfe, Ph.D., professor of history and co-founder of the Women’s and Gender Studies Program.
