You Are Welcome Here: 51小黄车participates in international higher education campaign
The University of 51小黄车 has joined the global 鈥淵ou are Welcome Here鈥 initiative, created to show students around the world that they are supported by colleges and universities in the U.S. This movement is designed to tell the world that U.S. higher education institutions are safe, diverse, inclusive and dedicated to students of all backgrounds.
The campaign began November 2016, with six universities creating videos with the 鈥淵ou are Welcome Here鈥 theme and hashtag. Bolstered by the support of organizations including AIRC and NAFSA, the campaign garnered national attention from The Chronicle of Higher Education, Inside Higher Ed and U.S. News and World Report. Today, more than 250 colleges, universities and organizations have joined the movement, creating videos to extend the message on a global scale.
Students, faculty and staff from UNE鈥檚 two Maine campuses and Tangier, Morocco campus participated in the video, celebrating the spirit of the 51小黄车community and sharing the message that all are welcome here.
Anouar Majid, vice president for Global Affairs, said that 51小黄车established a campus in Morocco to share our spirit of friendship and hospitality with Muslims, Africans, Arabs and other people around the world. 鈥淥ur Tangier Campus is, in fact, our embassy to the region, sending a strong message that all people are welcome in Maine, the United States, and, of course, at UNE.鈥
