According to a study from the Journal of the American Medical Association, more women are using marijuana to treat morning sickness. WCSH asked the University of 51小黄车鈥檚 Dora Anne Mills, M.D., M.P.H., FAAP, vice president for Clinical Affairs and director for the Center for Excellence in Health Innovation to offer her medical expertise on the issue.

Mills said marijuana could be damaging because the ingredients in the drug cross the placenta barrier and can be distributed to the rapidly developing fetus' brain tissue. "We know that with the developing brain of the fetus, even the lowest doses can cause problems," said Mills. "A lot of women may think, 'oh, it's okay, because I'm early on in pregnancy, to use marijuana to treat my nausea.  These studies show absolutely that is not true, even the very lowest doses can cause problems.
