51СƳFootball focus of story in ‘Portland Press Herald’
The Portland Press Herald published an in-depth story on January 29, 2017 about the University of 51СƳ gearing up for its first season of football. The newspaper interviewed 51СƳfootball coach Mike Lichten, who is working tirelessly to prepare for the Nor’easters’ first football season, as well as 51СƳVice President of Student Engagement and Director of Athletics Jack McDonald and prospective players.
Lichten has recruited 18 prospective players for the team and continues to work to build his coaching staff and recruit more players. In the article, he discussed the message he gives prospective players about 51СƳas he travels the country meeting them face-to-face. “It’s a unique opportunity, that’s for sure,” Lichten said. “This is an unbelievable place to go to college. This is a place that’s going to shape you and promote your growth as an individual in a way that most places cannot do.”
“Football is more than a game,” McDonald said. “It’s very traditional. It’s a weekly reunion on a Saturday afternoon. It’s alumni gatherings. It’s student spirit. We’ll certainly roll into tailgating and Friday night rallies and all of that excitement.”
