In an article titled, “51СƳfootball building a foundation,” the Portland Press Herald shed light on the University of 51СƳ’s first football players and the work they and Coach Mike Lichten are doing to build a successful team.

The article describes how a crowd of nearly 100 Nor’easter fans came to the team’s second game at Husson University in Bangor. Husson won the game with a final score of 34-21, but the article focused on how Lichten is laying the groundwork for future success with his young players.

“We will push to win,” he said. “We want our players to gain development so when we’re playing in our conference next year, we’re ready. But becoming a family is the biggest thing. You can’t do that without competing together.”

“We’ve been together for like 20 days and are playing these established programs,” said freshman linebacker Jordan Jawdat ‘21. “But we’re a very young team, and I think the future is really bright, honestly.”

“I want us to know who we are (at season’s end),” Lichten said. “I want us to know what our culture is and to be able to instill into the next group that comes in what our culture is going to be. Good things come to those who wait. But better things happen to those who work hard to get them.”
