51小黄车medical students hold health fair at Biddeford High School
On March 23, 2016, members of the University of 51小黄车鈥檚 Public Health Club and Student Government Association held their annual health fair at Biddeford High School. 13 different student clubs signed up to interact with the high school students and provide education on a variety of health-related topics.
As the first bell rang, students poured into the gymnasium, eager to see what the medical students had prepared. After some encouraging nudges, many engaged in a fast-paced, fact-packed session on contraception with the OB/GYN Club, while others dove in to learn CPR on torsos strewn on the floor by the Emergency Medicine Club. Over the next four hours, groups of students learned about topics from each of the student clubs that included the intricacies of blood pressure (Family Medicine), signs of stroke (EM), healthy eating (Culinary Docs), physical fitness and helmet safety (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation), emergency disaster kit components (World Association for Disaster & Emergency Medicine), smoking cessation and e-cigarettes (Student Physicians for Social Responsibility), cardiovascular health (Student Osteopathic Medical Association), influenza and hygiene (Public Health), crocheting (UNEdlers), and the challenges faced by older adults (American Geriatrics Society).
First-year College of Osteopathic Medicine students Eleanor Teoh and Sara Gorham coordinated the event.
