Heather Dwyer Sadlier, Ed.D., associate professor in the Department of Education, wrote a column about bullying for the Journal Tribune’s September 25 issue of its monthly Health & Wellness publication.

In “Strategies for Addressing Bullying: Advice from Educators,” Sadlier shared responses from area educators to three key questions: What advice can parents/families give to children about bullying? What actions do you wish parents/families would take if they have a child who is bullying or being bullied? What other information or advice about the issue would you like to communicate?

Sadlier addressed both “regular” bullying as well as cyberbullying.

“The research is clear,” explained Sadlier in the column, “To ignore bullying is to condone the behavior. With no intervention from a bystander, the bully feels empowered and, research shows, his/her behavior toward the targeted individual will inevitably escalate from words to physical action.”
