Noah Perlut publishes paper in ‘Ecology and Evolution’

Noah Perlut, Ph.D., associate professor in the University of 51СƳ Department of Environmental Studies, recently published a paper in the journal Ecology and Evolution titled “Local parasite lineage sharing in temperate grassland birds provides clues about potential origins of Galapagos avian ʱǻ徱ܳ.”

The collaborative paper, led by Iris Levin, characterizes the geographic origins of two Plasmodium parasite lineages detected in the Galapagos Islands and in North American breeding bobolinks that regularly stop in Galapagos during their migration between North and South America. This work help set the stage for Perlut’s recent sabbatical research trip to Galapagos where he caught bobolinks while on migratory stopover on the islands.
