Megan May writes article on Zika virus for 'The Hill'
Meghan May, Ph.D., associate professor of biomedical sciences in the College of Osteopathic Medicine, wrote an article about the Zika virus for The Hill, a website and daily political newspaper published in Washington, D.C.
May discusses the unprecedented travel warning issued by the CDC, advising pregnant women and their partners not to travel to the Florida community where the virus is actively being transmitted. The advisory also included a note that all pregnant women, regardless of location or travel history, should be tested for the Zika virus at every appointment.
May states that in her view, 鈥渢he standard screening of pregnant women is a pivot.鈥 She continues, saying that the CDC recommendation appears to indicate that 鈥渨e are dealing with some unknowns and it would be best to play things cautiously.鈥 With doctors and public health officials learning more about the Zika virus on an ongoing basis, the rules and recommendations regarding the outbreak will be changing quickly.
