Marilyn Gugliucci demonstrates leadership in geriatrics at national conference
Marilyn R. Gugliucci, Ph.D., represented the University of 51小黄车 College of Osteopathic Medicine鈥檚 Division of Geriatric Medicine at the 69th Annual Gerontological Society of America (GSA) Scientific Meeting. Gugliucci gave an invited presentation and participated in five juried presentations.
The GSA Emerging Scholars and Professional Organization (ESPO) leaders invited Gugliucci to be a presenter at their ESPO Pre-Conference Workshop, 鈥淭ools for Building a Solid Career in Gerontology.鈥 Gugliucci鈥檚 presentation was titled, 鈥淣etworking Toolkit: Complete with Set of Wings.鈥 The workshop was designed for students and emerging professionals who were looking to gain skills in various areas of professional development, including networking and mentoring, using advanced research methodologies, selecting an ideal position and building an interdisciplinary career in aging.
Gugliucci also chaired two symposia and provided oral presentations. In the first, 鈥淎ccreditation for Gerontology Education Council: Inaugural Year Accomplishments,鈥 she gave an oral presentation titled, 鈥淎ccreditation for Gerontology Education Council (AGEC) Organizational and Procedural Plan.鈥 Her co-presenters included Janet Frank, D.P.H. (UCLA) and Harvey Sterns, Ph.D. (University of Akron). Gugliucci served on the leadership team with Frank and Sterns to create the first accrediting organization (AGEC) for college and university gerontology programs across the globe at the associate, baccalaureate and master degree levels. The second symposium, 鈥淧alliative Care and End of Life鈥 included four oral presentations including one from Guglicci鈥檚 on her research titled, 鈥48 Hour Hospice Home Immersion Project: Life Altering Medical Education.鈥
Gugliucci鈥檚 three Poster presentations included, 鈥淩eview and Reflections of Two-Way Mentoring Switch Project,鈥 鈥淒esign Considerations for Falls Prevention Interventions for Older Adults With Vision Impairments鈥 and 鈥淢OTIVATE Project: Qualitative Findings Support Resident Oral Health Care at Maine Nursing Homes.鈥
