WGME interviews James Sulikowski on likelihood of shark attacks in Maine
On June 15, 2015, James Sulikowski, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Marine Sciences, was interviewed by WGME for a news segment on the danger that sharks pose in Maine waters.
In the wake of recent shark attacks in Florida and North Carolina, Sulikowski, who has been studying sharks for over 20 years, was asked for his opinion regarding the likelihood of an attack taking place in Maine.
"You’re looking at chances of probably one in 500 million or more that it would happen here in Maine," Sulikowski said. "There has never been… any type of attack of a shark in Maine," he assured viewers, noting, "We are pretty safe up here…"
