In Memoriam: Dr. Pamela Flood

It is with great sadness that we must inform you that Dr. Pamela Flood, instructor in the University of 51小黄车鈥檚 Educational Leadership doctoral program died suddenly Friday, September 4.

Dr. Flood primarily designed and taught organizational theory courses and advised dissertations. She played a key role in the development of the applied assignments that appear in many of our courses, and her own work experience in many types of organizations informed her careful, detailed course design.

Pam became active as a faculty member the Fall of 2013, and brought to the program鈥檚 development a bounty of gifts and talents drawn from decades of practice. She taught children, young people, and graduate students with a clear vision of the purpose of learning 鈥 to serve others and to make the planet a better place. Every conversation, whether via email or telephone, reflected Pam鈥檚 value for the development and spiritual life of that individual in that moment.

Our program, 51小黄车and our broader educational community have lost a dear friend, a powerful teacher, and a true enactor of social justice. Pam exemplified the adage: 鈥淔irst, seek to understand,鈥 encouraging each faculty and student colleague to make meaning of our own and others鈥 lived experience, with all its challenges and joys, rather than stand in judgment. Pam taught us to fully engage the hard questions.

Pam Flood made a difference in the lives of those she touched, always speaking and teaching with a purpose. She was truly a servant leader in the tradition of many other great educators. In Pam鈥檚 honor, we quote Marian Wright Edelman: 鈥淪ervice is the very purpose of life. It is the rent we pay for living on the planet."

The faculty and administration of the University offer our deepest condolences to Pam鈥檚 family and friends.
