Marine Science students return from scallop research excursion at sea
A team of marine science students recently returned from a six-day research excursion in the mid Atlantic.
First-year graduate students Brett Sweezy and Amy Smith along with second-year graduate student Laura Ellis and undergraduate senior Erin Mohr participated in this grant-funded project, which is being conducted in collaboration with the Virginia Institute of Marine science and the 51小黄车 Aquarium.
The students spent the time at sea investigating the discard mortality rate of scallops within the scallop industry in order to better understand the rate of death for those scallops that are thrown back into the ocean during harvests.
The team filmed their activities aboard the vessel.
