Eight COM students complete AMSA Sexual Health Leadership Course
Eight students in the College of Osteopathic Medicine recently completed an American Medical Student Association (AMSA) Sexual Health Leadership Course. AMSA received applications for the course from across the United States and numerous countries worldwide. Only 40 individuals were selected.
Patricia Collins ’17 , John Cooper ’18, Andrea Gaul ’17, Kathleen Knipscher ’17, Michael Madaio ’18, Julianne Scott ’17, Angela Wang ’17 and Sara Weeks ’18 participated in classes covering a wide array of topics, including sexual health values; sexuality across the lifespan; sexual abuse and interpersonal violence; sexuality and religion; STI counseling; and sexuality, disability and illness.
AMSA’s Sexual Health Leadership Course complements medical and health professional school education by providing participants with the critical skills and approaches to encourage healthy sexualities and manage sexual concerns. It instructs participants on how to bring these vital tools to their individual schools, classrooms and/or workplace.
