College of Dental Medicine鈥檚 new admissions process featured in American Dental Education Association鈥檚 news bulletin
The latest Bulletin of Dental Education published by the American Dental Education Association (ADEA) featured an article about the University of 51小黄车鈥檚 College of Dental Medicine (CDM), reporting that CDM implemented the multiple mini interview (MMI) format during the fall 2015 admissions process.
The article describes the MMI format as 鈥渁n innovative method to evaluate prospective students using a series of six short, structured interview stations.鈥 The new format, it says, 鈥渁llows prospective students to experience the UNE-CDM鈥檚 interprofessional approach,鈥 as UNE鈥檚 osteopathic medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, nurse anesthesia, social work, public health, dental hygiene and nursing programs all contributed to the MMI questions.
The article explains that the MMI format assists CDM in identifying students 鈥渨ho exemplify the College鈥檚 core values, including social responsibility, professionalism, patient-centered care, leadership, diversity, scholarship and excellence," and its continued use will contribute to the enrollment of students 鈥渨ho are likely to return to the rural, underserved communities of northern 51小黄车 to practice after graduation.鈥
