David Livingstone Smith to appear in History Channel documentary
Philosophy Professor David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., flew to New York City last week to film for a six-part documentary titled, 鈥淣azis.鈥 The program, which will air on the History Channel, is based on real interrogations with members of the Nazi party after World War II. The interrogations are simulated by actors, and interspersed with commentary from academic experts.
Smith was asked to participate because of his extensive work on dehumanization and genocide, as presented in his award-winning book, Less Than Human: Why We Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others.
Smith will appear in several episodes, discussing figures such as: Nazi propagandist, Julius Streicher; Hitler鈥檚 architect, Albert Speer; Hitler鈥檚 deputy, Rudolf Hess; Commandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Hoess; Nazi physician, Karl Gebhardt; and SS commander, Oskar Dirlewanger. The series, which pays meticulous attention to historical accuracy, will broadcast in 2015.
