Studies by Thomas McLaughlin highlighted in Pew/MacArthur Foundation report on states’ use of cost-benefit analyses
Thomas Chalmers McLaughlin, Ph.D., associate professor in the School of Social Work, director of Online Education and co-director of the Center for Research and Evaluation, produced several analyses that are highlighted in the Pew/MacArthur Foundation report on States’ Use of Cost-Benefit Analysis to Improve Results for Taxpayers.
The report is based on research and data from all 50 states as it relates to cost-benefit analysis and its impact on policy decisions as it relates to funding for social services. McLaughlin’s work on the cost of homelessness studies and several subsequent analyses are featured in the report as studies that have influenced state funding decisions related to building new housing units for people who are homeless.
McLaughlin authored or co-authored all five of the studies from Maine cited in the report.
