Lara Carlson's research on a new fitness product featured on WCSH6
Lara Carlson, Ph.D., assistant professor of applied exercise science, was interviewed for a March 19, 2012 story on WCSH6 TV about a study of a new fitness product she conducted with three student assistants.
Carlson evaluated a group of 15 senior citizens from southern Maine as part of an eight-week study on fall prevention for the elderly. The seniors participated in a fitness routine using a new product called Wun-Jo, the Lemire System of Flo Dynamics developed by Scarborough-based health therapist Ron Lemire.
Assisting in the research, titled "Influence of Flo-Dynamics Intervention on Measures of Performance in Older Persons,' were undergraduate applied exercise science students Caitlin Murray '13, who can be seen in the background of the video, Kim Martins '13 and Casey Cottle '12. Michael Lawrence of the PT/AES departments also assisted.
