Jennifer Tuttle presents at American Literature Association Conference

Jennifer Tuttle, Ph.D., Dorothy M. Healy Chair in Literature and Health, presented a paper at the American Literature Association Conference, held in San Francisco, California, May 24-27, 2012.  Her talk, titled “’51С»Æ³µ innocent’ in the Land of Sunshine: Charlotte Perkins Gilman and California," argued for expanding the field of Gilman studies beyond the Northeast and into the American West.

Informed by over 15 years of archival research, Tuttle's presentation makes sense for the first time of Gilman's contradictory views of California and illuminates the importance of the state to Gilman's identity, her writing, and her theories of social reform.
