Douglas Lynch publishes article in the International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education
Dr. Douglas Lynch, Professor and Chair of the Education Department and Dr. Hernando Trujillo, Associate Professor of Chemistry, Wilkes University have recently published Motivational Beliefs and Learning Strategies in Organic Chemistry in the International Journal of Science and Mathematics Education (2011) 9: 1351-1365.
The study continues Dr. Lynch鈥檚 line of research regarding the association between motivational beliefs, learning strategies, and academic performance in challenging college courses. Key results identified patterns associated between course grades and self-efficacy, intrinsic motivation, and student sense of control. Test anxiety and extrinsic motivation were negatively associated with grades. As with his previous research, gender differences were pronounced. The notable gender difference suggests that female chemistry students may especially profit from focused faculty intervention.
