David Smith's 'Less than Human' released in paperback
Less Than Human: Why We Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others by David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy, is being released in paperback this week by St. Martin鈥檚 Press.
The book, released in hardback in 2011, draws on a rich mix of history, psychology, biology, anthropology and philosophy to document the pervasiveness of dehumanization, describe its forms, and explain how and why we so often resort to it.
Smith is also the author of The Most Dangerous Animal: Human Nature and the Origins of War and Why We Lie: The Evolutionary Roots of Deception and the Unconscious Mind. He also recently discussed his book Less than Human on NPR's Talk of the Nation. Read more.
