David Smith to make presentations in Ohio and Missouri
Associate Professor of Philosophy David Smith, Ph.D., will be the keynote speaker on Oct. 29, 2012 for the University of Missouri's MizzouDiversity Summit. The MizzouDiversity Summit brings the MU campus community together bi-annually to dialogue and plan strategies which help strengthen the MU identity as an environment or culture that values diversity in its many ways and forms.
On Sept. 12th, Smith will appear at the Cuyahoga County Public Library in Parma Ohio to discuss his latest book, Less Than Human: Why We Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others, a study in dehumanization and the roots of human violence and bigotry. Less Than Human is the winner of the 2012 Anisfield-Wolf Book Award for Nonfiction, which recognizes books that have made important contributions to understanding racism and the diversity of human cultures.
