Ali Ahmida interviewed on WMPG and Europa on Middle East and North African uprisings
Ali Abdullatif Ahmida, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Political Science, was interviewed live, along with USM President Selma Botman, Ph.D., on WMPG-FM, Greater Portland Community Radio April 14, 2011. Both are scholars of Middle Eastern and North African politics, and they discussed the uprisings in that area.
On April 12, the Italian newspaper also published an interview with Ahmida titled "Il gran rifiuto di Bengasi," translated loosely as "Banghazi's refusal", referring to the Libyan rebels' reply to the African Union's ceasefire proposal.
Since the North African and Middle Eastern uprisings began in January, Ahmida has been interviewed by a number of media outlets, including NPR's Morning Edition and Charlie Rose show, CBC Radio Canada, KPFK Pacifica Radio, Los Angeles, WBEZ Chicago Public Media, Mother Jones magazine and more. Ahmida, who was born in Libya, is the author of The Making of Modern Libya: State Formation, Colonialization and Resistance, and several other books on Libya and North Africa.
