Ali Ahmida interviewed for MPBN radio story on Mitchell's resignation as U.S. envoy to the Middle East
Ali Abdullatif Ahmida, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Political Science, was interviewed by MPBN radio for a May 13, 2011 story on former U.S. Senate majority leader George Mitchell's resignation as U.S. envoy to the Middle East.
Ahmida told MPBN that part of the problem is the U.S. is stretched too thin, with its wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. "In order for a mediation to succeed you have the right climate, the right partners, and also the focus and the energy of the United States government, and that wasn't there," Ahmida said. "Senator Mitchell, I don't think I expected him to succeed."
Since the North African and Middle Eastern uprisings began in January, Ahmida has been interviewed by a number of media outlets, including NPR's Morning Edition and Charlie Rose show, CBC Radio Canada, KPFK Pacifica Radio, Los Angeles, WBEZ Chicago Public Media, Mother Jones magazine and more. Ahmida, who was born in Libya, is the author of The Making of Modern Libya: State Formation, Colonialization and Resistance, and several other books on Libya and North Africa.
