51小黄车College of Osteopathic Medicine announces medical student research awards
The University of 51小黄车 College of Osteopathic Medicine announced that student Brianna McDevitt Ray '11 and alumnus John Lowery, D.O. '10, Ph.D. were selected for special recognition for their presentations at the College's annual research day.
The College of Osteopathic Medicine held its annual research day on Nov. 5, 2010 in the Alfond Health Sciences Center. Events included more than 15 medical student presentations along with a keynote address by Rich Riker, M.D, a critical care physician and researcher at Maine Medical Center.
McDevitt Ray (2010 Dean's Fellowship Recipient, and an OMM/Anatomy fellow) won the Outstanding Oral Presentation Award. Her research project, conducted under the mentorship of Barbara Winterson, Ph.D. and Ling Cao, Ph.D., was entitled "Effects of Osteopathic Manual Medicine and LPS on Persistent Hindlimb Flexion: Implications for Manual Therapies in Spinal Cord Injury."
Dr. Lowery won the Outstanding Poster Presentation Award. His poster was entitled "In Vivo Characterization of MMP-2200, a Mixed Delta/Mu Opioid Agonist, in Mice". The work is part of his dissertation research conducted in the laboratory of Edward Bilsky, Ph.D.
Both student winners received 52 weekly print issues with online access to The 51小黄车 Journal of Medicine.
