Pfizer Visiting Professorship in Pain Medicine awarded to UNE

The University of 51小黄车 has been named the recipient of a Pfizer Visiting Professorship in Pain Medicine fellowship. 

The College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Center for Excellence in the Neurosciences will host Scott Fishman, M.D., Sept. 14-16, 2010. The visit will include a series of lectures, meetings and workshops with students, faculty and staff interested in anesthesiology and pain management. Portions of the visit will also be open to the public.

Dr. Fishman is chief of the Division of Pain Medicine and Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of California, Davis. He is an internationally known clinician and educator who has published over 85 original articles, given numerous presentations, and written or edited a number of seminal books on topics related to pain management.

Dr. Fishman serves as president and chairman of the board for the American Pain Foundation and is past president of the American Academy of Pain Medicine. Dr. Fishman has also been featured in the major TV media such as the Today Show, Good Morning America and the ABC Nightly News, and has been quoted in the major print media, such as The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine and Newsweek.

The visiting professorships program reflects Pfizer's commitment to the advancement of clinical and research knowledge at U.S. medical schools, teaching hospitals, or organizations. These grants create opportunities for selected institutions to invite a distinguished expert for 3 days of teaching and professional exchange with students, faculty, research fellows, physicians, nurses, community members, and others at the host institution. This is the third time UNE/UNECOM has been selected to receive this prestigious award.
