Ali Ahmida invited to be commentator on Al-Jazeera on U.S. election night
Ali Abdullatif Ahmida, Ph.D., professor and chair of the Department of Political Science, was a political commentator on Al-Jazeera on U.S. election night on Nov. 2, 2010. The coverage began at 7:00 p.m. EST and ran until midnight.. The program was in Arabic and provided commentary from a variety of guests on the air, including a Democrat, a Republican, and a number of analysts, Ahmida among them. The program discussed local U.S. issues (economy, immigration, health care) as well as foreign policy. Al-Jazeera is available to 40 million people worldwide, which includes the entire North African and Middle Eastern Arab World. Ahmida is the author of several books, including Post-Orientalism: Critical Reviews in North African Social and Cultural History and The Making of Modern Libya: State Formation, Colonization, and Resistance 1830-1932.
