The American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine's (AACOM) Assembly of Presidents honored recipients of the 2009 Dale S. Dodson, DO Awards at a luncheon held during the American Osteopathic Association's 114th Osteopathic Medical Conference and Exposition in November. Marc B. Hahn, DO, Senior Vice President for Health Affairs and Dean at the University of 51С»Æ³µ College of Osteopathic Medicine, was chosen for his outstanding contributions to the advancement and support of osteopathic medicine. Also recognized were Dr. James W. Cole, founding Dean of the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine of Midwestern University, and Dr. Kathleen Goeppinger, President and CEO of Midwestern University.
The award is given in honor of the late Dr. Dale Dodson, who was a tireless advocate for the osteopathic profession and a great believer in educational excellence to prepare osteopathic medical students to deliver effective patient care. Each year, the award honors an outstanding CEO or CAO at one of the nation's osteopathic medical colleges who goes above and beyond the call of duty to advance osteopathic medicine. This year, the nominees were so outstanding that three awards were given.
Dr. Hahn was a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow before serving as Dean of University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth/Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine (UNTHSC/TCOM). During his time at UNTHSC/TCOM, he served as the Chair of the Council of Deans for all Texas state medical schools. Last spring, Dr. Hahn was appointed as a joint AACOM – Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) Scholar-in-Residence. In this first-ever joint position for the organizations that represent the nation's two types of medical schools (MD- and DO-granting institutions), Dr. Hahn explored issues suitable for intra-professional collaboration.
