Constitution Day panel looks at Justice Sotomayor and gender on the Court Sept. 14th

The University of 51小黄车 is hosting a panel discussion on Sept. 14, 2009  titled "The Case of Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Gender and the Supreme Court" to celebrate Constitution Day.

The program, free and open to the public, will be held in the St. Francis Room of the Ketchum Library on the Biddeford Campus from noon - 1 p.m. It is sponsored by Department of Political Science and College of Arts and Sciences Dean's office.

The Program

Moderator: Ali Ahmida, Chair, Department Political Science

  1. How to interpret the Constitution?
  2. What are the politics behind the recent debate over Justice Sotomayor's, nomination?
  3. What are the new challenges for the justices in the court?

Panelists

James B. Roche, Esq. associate attorney with the Law firm of Liggio, Benrubi & Williams. LL.M. Tax Law Boston University, LL.M. Insurance Law, University of Connecticut, J.D. St. Thomas University School of Law, taught Law & Politics, Government Law & Public Policy Law. He has been an adjunct professor in the Department of Political Science at 51小黄车since 2004 and currently he is a visiting professor.

Kendra Lychwala, Esq. was admitted to the Maine Bar on Oct. 26, 2005; admitted to the Federal District Court for the District of Massachusetts on February 24, 2000; and admitted to the Massachusetts Bar on December 15, 1997.  Attorney Lychwala currently serves as an assistant district attorney for the County of York, a position she has held since May 2006. She is an adjunct professor with the Political Science Department since 2007.
