Anouar Majid publishes essay in the Middle East Journal
Anouar Majid, Director of the Center for Global Humanities, published an essay titled "The Ways of the Nassara" in the Middle East Journal, a publication of the Middle East Institute in Washington, D.C.. Majid's essay is in a special issue of Viewpoints on Edward Said's defining book, Orientalism. Titled "Orientalism's Wake: The Ongoing Politics of a Polemic," the issue brings together the world's leading scholars on the subject. In addition to Professor Majid, contributors include Daniel Martin Varisco (Hofstra University), Gil Anidjar (Columbia University), Robert Irwin (School of African and Oriental Studies; Times Literary Supplement), Roger Owen (Harvard University), Lucy K. Pick (University of Chicago), Stuart Schaar (Brooklyn College), Bryan S. Turner (Cambridge University). The issue also includes an extensive and authoritative bibliography. Earlier in the summer, Majid published a review essay about the significance of the Holy land in the Anglo-American imagination titled "The Political Geography of Holiness" in the journal American Literary History and "Bearing Witness," a review of Thomas S. Kidd. American Christians and Islam: Evangelical Culture and Muslims from the Colonial Period to the Age of Terrorism in the journal Reviews in American History.
