CECE Event: Scientific Literacy and the COVID Pandemic

12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Portland Campus for the Health Sciences (Innovation 104 ), Biddeford Campus (St. Francis Room ), Online

Science literacy encompasses the ability to use this knowledge to make informed decisions based on fact rather than opinion, politics, misinformation, or trends. The 2020 pandemic made us acutely aware of the potency of misinformation and the importance of encouraging the use of science to prevent and intervene with the lethal virus. This event brings together an expert panel to explore the essentials of science literacy, identify roadblocks to overcoming the influence of emotion and confirmation bias in people’s thinking about COVID-19, and offer recommendations to students, educators, and workers to address patients and colleagues who remain hesitant about the utility and efficacy of vaccination.
