Surgical Treatment of Movement Disorders and Deep Brain Stimulation
Dr. Anand Rughani is a fellowship trained functional neurosurgeon treating patients with Parkinson's disease, essential tremor, dystonia, epilepsy, and neuropathic pain. He is currently the only sub-specialist of his kind in Maine.
Prior to joining Maine Medical Center, Dr. Rughani received his fellowship training in Epilepsy & Functional Neurosurgery at the University of Toronto and post-graduate medical education in Neurosurgery at the University of Vermont. He received his M.D.C.M. as well as his B.Sc. from McGill University.
Functional Neurosurgery surgically treats some movement disorders, epilepsy, pain, and some psychiatric diseases. The most common movement disorder treated with surgery is Parkinson? disease, usually treated surgically with Deep Brain Stimulation. He is currently the only neurosurgeon in Maine providing Deep Brain Stimulation. He also provides general neurosurgical care.
