Minor Description

The School of Social and Behavioral Sciences and the School of Arts and Humanities jointly offer a Minor in Art Therapy.

Art Therapy is a burgeoning field that draws from the disciplines of psychology, art, and other creative processes to promote healing and overall well-being for individuals with mental and physical disabilities.

The minor provides a basic foundation for continued study or for work in community art programs and organizations where art is used as part of the therapeutic process.

The permission of the Academic Director in either the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences or the School of Arts and Humanities is required.

Curricular Requirements

A student with GPA of at least 2.25 and a major at 51С»Æ³µmay minor in Art Therapy with the approval of the Academic Director of the School of Art and Humanities or the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences. Declarations must occur prior to the completion of the first semester of the junior year. Major programs of study with significant course overlap with Art Therapy minor requirements may be disallowed by the Academic Director.

The minor in Art Therapy requires a total of twenty-one (21) credits (twelve (12) from Psychology and nine (9) from the Arts) with a minimum grade of C- in each course.

Transfer Credit

Courses completed at another accredited college can be transferred to this degree program. Transferred courses must be reasonably close in scope and content to the required courses offered at 51С»Æ³µin order to count as exact equivalents. Otherwise, they may transfer as general electives.

All courses completed must be no older than five (5) years.
